LL185: Bloomsbury Group Yarns - Text and Textiles workshop with Rosalind Wyatt (In person)

To tie in with our theatrical run of Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own, embroidery and calligraphy artist Rosalind Wyatt leads this practical creative workshop, inspired by the Bloomsbury Group and The London Library’s history and collection.

Using our archive of letters and joining forms, which reveal the handwriting and signatures of former Library members including Virginia Woolf and her circle of friends and associates, Rosalind will lead you through the art of writing with a needle and the act of stitching handwriting directly into cloth, telling stories and histories along the way. With exercises to help you make your mark, interpret text into needle and thread and analyse handwriting, you’ll come away with your own textile art and a unique insight into some of most famous literary giants in the Library’s history.

The workshop will run from 2.30 to 5pm in the New Room at the Library. Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the workshop.

Rosalind Wyatt is an artist working with embroidery, textiles and calligraphy to explore the art of handwriting and the stories and secrets contained in archives. Her work often expresses the unique emotions of a person and place through ‘writing with a needle’ and stitching handwriting directly by hand and by eye into cloth. She has lectured and run workshops all over the world and her exhibitions include Homo Faber (The Journey of Life, Venice, 2024), Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial (Tenth Muse, Commissioned installation, 2021), The New Craftsmen (London, UK) Group and Solo shows between 2013 – 2020, Blue Print (TX,USA) Group shows 2014 and The Gallery of Words (Mayfair, London) Solo show 2011.
