Perilous Enchantment – The True History of Faeries (In person)
In her new book, Perilous Enchantment, the acclaimed historian of myth and folklore, Sarah Clegg, tracks the fascinating history of fairies, from the pre-Christian creatures of classical myth via medieval royal courts, witch trials, Victorian hoaxes, fairy balls, all the way to the modern phenomena of romantasy. Tracing their ubiquitous presence in storytelling and landscape across the globe, the book considers the way folklore evolves in response to culture, religion and politics and shines fresh light on the real and imagined world of fairies in all their terrifying darkness and seductive splendour.
In conversation with fellow historian and Betwixt the Sheets podcast host, Kate Lister, they’ll explore the enduring influence and our endless fascination with these mysterious, magical, mythical creatures.
